How To View Videos On Dotsub:

How To Upload Videos On Dotsub:

To upload your video to Dotsub first, be sure you are logged in. If you don't have an account, just go to the top right of the site and click on "register". It only takes a minute to create an account. You will then be able to upload your video.

Look for the yellow "Upload Your Video" button on the right of the Dotsub home page. Click on this and you will be taken to the video metadata page. Here you can choose the license language, genre etc. You can also choose to have your video "public" meaning anyone who comes to Dotsub can view the video, or "private" meaning you can choose specific Dotsub users that will have access to your video. Once your video is uploaded you will find additional permission options under the blue "Video Properties" tab just to the right and below the player. Fill out the info, and once your video file to upload onto Dotsub, click on the yellow "save" button. You will see a progress bar at the bottom of your page. It could take a few minutes to upload so please be patient and do not close your browser until the video is uploaded. You will receive an e-mail telling you your video is being processed, and then an e-mail when you video has been converted/transcoded. You can now view your video, Dotsub it, and share it with the world.

How To Caption Videos On Dotsub:

To caption your video to Dotsub first, be sure you are logged in. If you don't have an account, just go to the top right of the site and click on "register". It only takes a minute to create an account. You will then be able to caption your video.

To caption your video, go to the video and look for the blue "Caption/Translate" tab just to the right and slightly below the player. Click on the orange "caption" option. This will take you to the Dotsub caption user interface. First, click your mouse in the box just under the blue "Add a caption line" text. Now using the keyboard commands under the player you can star, stop, rewind, or fast forward the video. To start the video hit CTRL + SHIFT + P, listen for a few seconds, then stop the video by hitting CTRL + SHIFT + P. Type what you heard in the box, hit CTRL + SHIFT + ↓ to enter the "out" point for this caption line. You will notice that the 00:00 numbers to the left of the caption line box change when you do this. Then hit the "enter" key. You will see the line you just typed move up in the cue, and this will save your work. Hit CTRL + SHIFT + P, listen, hit CTRL + SHIFT + P, type, CTRL + SHIFT + ↓, enter and so on. To set the in point for a caption line you can hit CTRL + SHIFT + ↑. To rewind 1 second hit CTRL + SHIFT + ←, you can hit this a few times to move a few seconds at a time, or you can hit CTRL + SHIFT + ←, and hold the ← arrow, for higher speed rewind. To fast forward 1 second hit CTRL + SHIFT + → you can hit this a few times to move a few seconds at a time, or you can hold the → arrow for higher speed fast forward. You will see what you are typing appear on the player as you type so you can check your work and your timings against the video.

Just a quick hint, try to keep the captions to 2 lines. 3 lines can sometimes get in the way of the picture. Also, make sure your captions are up for enough time so that the viewer can read them. Once you get the hang of it you'll find it quite easy and even fun!

How To Translate A Video On Dotsub:

To translate a video to Dotsub first, be sure you are logged in. If you don't have an account, just go to the top right of the site and click on "register". It only takes a minute to create an account. You will then be able to translate your video.

To translate a video, go to the video and look for the blue "Caption/Translate" tab just to the right and slightly below the player. You will see a drop down menu next to the yellow "Translate" button. Select your language from the drop down menu, then hit the yellow "Translate" button. This will take you to the Dotsub translation user interface. You will see the source language text in black, and just under the text in blue you will see "Click here to translate into [language]". Click on the blue text, type your translation of the black text above, hit the enter key and you will move to the next line. Every time you hit the enter key you will save your work. You can translate as many lines at a time as you like, hit the enter key, and then the "esc" key and you can close the browser and come back to the video later and continue where you left off. When you have translated to the very last line, please be sure to hit the enter key. This will make sure that the last line is saved along with the rest of your work. If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the translation user interface page, you will see a number of options. You can go "back to video" to see your translation against the video.
