In this industry, you can't narrow it down.
You can't say, "Oh, I'm only going to focus for my inspiration in a certain, particular area."
You have to be open-minded always. With challenging ideas always be provocative,
Never accept, "That's good enough." Good enough is never good enough.
We always have to think that much further into the future,
so, I guess, designers in general are seen as rebellious as a result of
always pushing and never being satisfied. [Russelsheim, Germany]

[Mark Adams, Vice President Design GM Europe] My name is Mark Adams.
I'm the Vice President of Design for General Motors Europe.
This is the GME Design Center. We do all of the exterior and interior
production designs for the GME brands and the advanced activities for the GME brands.
Production design is cars that become reality--come on the road that we all see at the end of the day,
and the advanced design is more experimental--looking into the future.
Sometimes it leads to production vehicles. Other times it's a little bit more theoretical.
There's a total of 11 design centers around the world.
I guess we're probably the second largest, so we have a very large amount of the global
workload relative to our brands here in Europe. We're doing vehicles for the globe.
The real passion in my life, actually, is my family.
I feel very strongly about my family, and whenever I have spare time, I love spending it with my wife
and children and friends and just enjoying life.
I guess I never quite stop thinking about design. I'm always--even when I'm in a
restaurant or I'm out driving somewhere, if I see something, I think
oh, that's got an interesting connection to something we may be doing.
This team here is very much working globally, so we have a lot of interaction
with the other design centers around the world. It helps us raise the bar
in design on all aspects of the business.
At the end of the day, having people that are passionate about design,
that are really creative, pushing the boundaries like I mentioned earlier, enthusiastic--
all of those things--that's what's the engine room of the whole design center here.
I think we have a great group of people that really have a strong--almost family--connection to keep this passion going.

GM Design Centers around the globe and drives production vehicle design
and enhanced concept design for Opel, Saab, Saturn and Vauxhall.]
